Oreo cake pops

Whether you are having a Jubilee street party, a summer BBQ, a birthday party, wedding or indeed ANY occasion, these cake pops are well worth the effort.

At a wedding reception recently, the couple had an amazing sweet bar which included cake pops, and mini oreo cheesecakes. Both were amazingly delicious, and it got me thinking- what if you combined the two?? Oreo cake pops I thought, must be possible.

After a bit of research on google, I couldn’t see any UK recipes, so I just took some principles and had a go at making up my own for our BBQ last weeken, and actually they turned out to be rather simple to make (although decorating was messy!) and very yummy! Not only that, but they are also cheap to make too!

Here’s how you make them

Top tips:

We had heard that you could use polystyrene cups to hold the pops in whilst they dry (pictured) this was actually quite faffy- the cups overbalance easily, and we used rolled up tissue inside to give a better balance. I would look for a solid polystyrene in future.

The chocolate is thicker than most cake pop icing/frosting- so we found that the drizzle worked best- as covering the whole pop was a bit gloopy and tricky to balance. I liked the drizzle effect as you can see the dark chocolate oreo pop underneath. If you want a smooth finish- you need to use a thinner, quicker drying cake pop icing recipe instead of white chocolate.

To make 35 small pops you need:

  • 4.5 packs oreo cookies (the long packets not mini snack packs) (currently 75p each in supermarkets)
  • 1 250g tub Philedelphia light cheese  (on offer at £1 at the moment)
  • 80g white chocolate (I got mine for 79p in Lidl)
  • Cake pop sticks (£1.99 for 50)

Total cost per pop:  18p
